Frequently Asked Questions
May Fair Ball scholarships be used at ANY college or university?
FBF scholarships may only be used by degree-seeking students at nonprofit, accredited four-year institutions.
Do ALL colleges and universities accept Fair Ball scholarships?
In some cases, conference or institutional athletic eligibility rules may limit or prohibit the use of FBF scholarships. For example, NCAA DIII and Ivy League scholarship limitations may prohibit the use of FBF scholarships.
What are the tax implications to Fair Ball funds?
FBF scholarships are not considered taxable income as they are paid directly to the institution. All other funding sources (ie; fellowships, ambassadorships, and internships) are considered taxable income and must be reported by the recipient as such. Taxable income may impact future financial aid awards, so it is crucial to consider these factors prior to accepting any of these opportunities.
What if a Fair Ball scholar wants to transfer from one college or university to another?
FBF scholarships are transferable. Both FBF eligibility requirements and institutional policies apply and therefore could impact funding upon transfer. Scholars should consult FBF staff prior to entering the transfer portal in order to better understand potential limits.
What happens if financial need as established by the college/university is less than $10,000?
If established financial need is less than the total award granted, scholars are eligible for qualifying reimbursements to cover education-related expenses throughout the year, up to the total scholarship amount.
What happens if a Fair Ball scholar loses their scholarship or renders themself ineligible?
FBF reserves the right to rescind future awards if a scholar fails to meet standards for continuing eligibility.
What happens if a Fair Ball scholar has access to a fifth year of competition?
FBF scholars may apply for a one-time extension of aid for a fifth year of competition. Awards are based on completion of undergraduate degree and funds available at the time of application. Fellowships, Ambassadorships, and Internships may also be used to help cover the costs of a fifth year.
Can a Fair Ball scholar apply for FBF Fellowships, Ambassadorships, and/or Internships?

1) Recipient’s choice of institution is not restricted
2) There is no direct connection between FBF or it’s donors and the recipient’s institution
3) Financial aid is not provided by an outside sports team or organization that conducts a competitive sports program to any individual who has been a member of that team or organization
How and when does Fair Ball Foundation determine “financial need”?

Why does FBF require applicants to complete the FAFSA?
